A speed governor is a mechanical-electronic device fitted to a vehicle's accelerator linkage that physically limits the vehicle's maximum speed to a preset level. Unlike GPS tracking which alerts you after the fact, a speed governor stops the vehicle from exceeding the speed limit in the first place.
The device uses a micro-controller and motor to control the fuel pump's accelerator linkage — when the vehicle reaches the set speed limit, the device restricts further acceleration. The vehicle can still go faster when going downhill due to gravity, but cannot accelerate beyond the limit under engine power.
Under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR), fitting a certified speed governor is mandatory for certain categories of commercial vehicles in India. We supply and fit RTO Approved devices that are fully compliant with this requirement.
